Athens, 24 June 2026 – GET (Geospatial Enabling Technologies) and Open Cosmos Aegean have started working together on the development of data applications under Greece’s National Small Satellite Programme, a flagship initiative implemented by the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and with the support of the Hellenic Space Center (HSC) funded through the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility. The purpose of the collaboration is to demonstrate how satellite data can be transformed into practical Earth Observation applications that respond to real operational needs in Greece.
Within this framework, GET, leveraging its long-standing expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and satellite data exploitation, will design, develop, and deploy six (6) cutting-edge pilot applications / Demonstration Cases. These applications will be accessible as on-demand web services and are designed to address vital operational needs across both public and private sectors in Greece, covering the following fields:
-
- Precision Agriculture: An EO-based crop monitoring application designed to support timely decision-making for irrigation management and early detection of crop stress across major agricultural regions.
- Precision Aquaculture: A remote monitoring system for designated aquaculture zones to detect unauthorized expansions, ensure licensing compliance, and track water quality indicators.
- Predictive Climate Risk: High-spatial-resolution wildfire susceptibility assessment utilizing Machine Learning algorithms to empower Civil Protection authorities with risk modeling tools.
- Post-Disaster Damage Assessment: Satellite-powered applications for the insurance sector and public agricultural insurance frameworks (e.g., ELGA), accelerating claims management and fraud prevention after natural disasters.
- Infrastructure & Construction: Remote supervision, mapping, and progress tracking services for large-scale construction sites and major infrastructure assets.
- Forestry Monitoring: A comprehensive forest extent and change detection system designed to monitor environmental footprints, streamlining compliance with strict EU directives (such as the EU Deforestation Regulation – EUDR) and ESG reporting standards.
The collaboration highlights the importance of connecting national space infrastructure with real-world applications. By combining GET’s expertise in geospatial solutions with satellite data capabilities made available through Greece’s new space infrastructure, the project aims to turn Earth Observation data into practical tools that support better decision-making in agriculture, climate resilience, environmental protection, infrastructure monitoring and disaster response.
Panagiotis Symeonidis, Chief Scientific Officer of GET, said:
“GET’s active participation in the National Satellite Programme represents a historic milestone for our company and a validation of the technical excellence we have consistently cultivated over the years. In partnership with Open Cosmos, we transform raw satellite data into actionable intelligence and operational tools, delivering concrete solutions to pressing modern challenges such as the climate crisis, sustainable primary production, and environmental conservation. We are immensely proud to stand at the forefront of Greece’s space strategy.”
Maria Kalama, Managing Director of Open Cosmos Aegean, said:
“We are pleased to collaborate with GET in demonstrating how Earth Observation data can be transformed into practical services for users on the ground. This project reflects the value of connecting Greece’s new satellite capabilities with applications that can support public administration, businesses and society”.
About GET: GET (Geospatial Enabling Technologies) was founded with the vision of delivering comprehensive solutions in geoinformatics, Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), and Earth Observation. Utilizing open-source technologies and advanced methodologies, GET drives the digital transformation of public authorities and private enterprises in Greece and internationally.
