GET has successfully completed the second contract for the expansion and maintenance of the Spatial Data Infrastructure of the Region of Crete.
The Region of Crete is a representative example of good practice in modern geospatial information management, based on the procedures dictated by the legislative framework, which was a prerequisite for the digital transformation of the Region.
The SDI is a tool for fulfilling the goals of sustainable development, understanding and addressing environmental issues, dealing with natural disasters, saving natural and financial resources, supporting healthy entrepreneurship, improving quality of life and strengthening local democracy, since it ensures control and access to reliable information.
The SDI has already been included in the Innovation Department of the Ministry of Interior, as the first such application at regional level, while the Region of Crete has been recognized by the European Space Agency as a Region that utilizes Copernicus satellite data through the SDI.
